{"id":233,"date":"2016-03-29T00:16:21","date_gmt":"2016-03-29T00:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parablog-wordpress.dockerbox.rei.moe\/?p=233"},"modified":"2020-08-03T14:16:55","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T03:46:55","slug":"making-a-cisco-precision-hd-1080-4x-work-without-the-tandberg-controller-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lewys.eu\/?p=233","title":{"rendered":"Making a Cisco Precision HD 1080 4X work without the Tandberg controller thing."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have had this Cisco Tandberg PrecisionHD 1080 4X camera for quite some time now, but I never really had a go at making it work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/172.16.0.6:8683\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/spires-video-cisco-lice-local-21-638.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-237\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-237\" src=\"http:\/\/172.16.0.6:8683\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/spires-video-cisco-lice-local-21-638.jpg\" alt=\"spires-video-cisco-lice-local-21-638\" width=\"638\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lewys.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/spires-video-cisco-lice-local-21-638.jpg 638w, https:\/\/blog.lewys.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/spires-video-cisco-lice-local-21-638-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This morning I decided to give it a quick go and got it going right away!<\/p>\n<p>I looked up some manuals&nbsp;online:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.manualslib.com\/manual\/716206\/Tandberg-Precisionhd-720p.html?page=22#manual\">http:\/\/www.manualslib.com\/manual\/716206\/Tandberg-Precisionhd-720p.html?page=22#manual<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/c\/dam\/en\/us\/td\/docs\/telepresence\/endpoint\/camera\/precisionhd\/user_guide\/precisionhd_1080p-720p_camera_user_guide.pdf\">http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/c\/dam\/en\/us\/td\/docs\/telepresence\/endpoint\/camera\/precisionhd\/user_guide\/precisionhd_1080p-720p_camera_user_guide.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmdtkt.upc.smm.lt\/dokumentai\/Medziaga\/inzinerine\/mm8\/medziaga\/TANDBERG_PrecisionHD_1080p.pdf\">http:\/\/www.pmdtkt.upc.smm.lt\/dokumentai\/Medziaga\/inzinerine\/mm8\/medziaga\/TANDBERG_PrecisionHD_1080p.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From these I was able to find the pinout of the &#8216;control&#8217; port on the back of the camera.<\/p>\n<p>There is a section in the last link that has the pinouts for things.<\/p>\n<p>I then used some random pinouts of the DB-9 Serial port and RJ45 Jack, to figure out what should go where.<\/p>\n<p>I had a console cable for SOMETHING laying around, so I used a multimeter to trace out where the pins went on the RJ-45 end from the DB-9 end. I labelled these out of an RJ-45 jack and then took my cable from the camera and hooked up the RX to TX, TX to RX and GND to GND.<\/p>\n<p>It looked like a monster..<\/p>\n<p>I cleaned it up a fair bit once I knew it was working, here&#8217;s an imgur album:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"imgur-embed-pub\" lang=\"en\" data-id=\"a\/W77X3\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/imgur.com\/a\/W77X3\">View post on imgur.com<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/s.imgur.com\/min\/embed.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>I was able to connect to the camera over serial with some random non-freeware that I used a trial of, but it wasn&#8217;t that great. seemed to be a little jerky in its control.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then I found a link to a zip file provided by Sony for their cameras also using the VISCA protocol.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s where I found it:<\/p>\n<p>(found name of zip: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.churchmedia.net\/forums\/video-and-film-cameras\/42436-software-visca-rs-232c-controlled.html?langid=2\">http:\/\/www.churchmedia.net\/forums\/video-and-film-cameras\/42436-software-visca-rs-232c-controlled.html?langid=2<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/j3soft.net\/webcam\/evi-d30.htm\">http:\/\/j3soft.net\/webcam\/evi-d30.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I will attach a mirror in case it gets lost. (<a href=\"http:\/\/172.16.0.6:8683\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/d30e.zip\" rel=\"\">d30e<\/a>.zip)<\/p>\n<p>I just started it with default options and hey presto! The camera worked!&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fsV55G9IztM\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fsV55G9IztM<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The software looks like this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/172.16.0.6:8683\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SioSa2_2016-03-29_11-13-13.png\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-234\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-234\" src=\"http:\/\/172.16.0.6:8683\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SioSa2_2016-03-29_11-13-13.png\" alt=\"SioSa2_2016-03-29_11-13-13\" width=\"409\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lewys.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SioSa2_2016-03-29_11-13-13.png 409w, https:\/\/blog.lewys.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/SioSa2_2016-03-29_11-13-13-273x300.png 273w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>PT and Z work, but the others not so much. Speed does nothing, and the aperture controls can turn it off (closed) but aren&#8217;t so great at opening it again!
